At EventBuilder, connection is at the heart of everything we do, and we take pride in helping people and organizations grow and thrive. But - our passion doesn't stop there! We're also committed to building a more inclusive and equitable future, where everyone has a chance to reach their full potential and truly shine. That's why we're thrilled to connect with STEM Like a Girl,Opens in new tab. a wonderful non-profit organization on a mission to inspire girls to pursue their interests in science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM). We couldn't be more excited to support their incredible work.

STEM Like a Girl: Sparking Curiosity and Building Confidence

As Marian Wright Edelman Opens in new tab. once said, "You can't be what you can't see." Historically, girls and women have faced barriers to STEM education and careers such as gender stereotypes, gender bias, and, importantly, a lack of role models in their fields of interest. STEM Like a Girl is focused on breaking down the barriers preventing girls from pursuing STEM education and careers through hands-on workshops, engaging science-focused activities, mentorship programs, and creating a supportive, inspiring environment where girls can discover the wonders of STEM to develop the skills and confidence to excel.

We recently sat down for a Fireside Chat with Sarah Foster, Founder and Executive Director of STEM Like a Girl, for an inspiring conversation about her work.

Sarah-Foster-Headshot-scaledSarah Foster, the visionary behind STEM Like a Girl, to some time with us to discuss her passion for STEM education and the incredible work her organization is doing with us. In this insightful conversation, Sarah shares her journey, discusses the challenges girls face in pursuing their interests in STEM fields, and how we can all play a role in creating a more inclusive future. Why STEM Education for Girls Matters

According to recent research, women make up only 28% of the STEM workforce. In the United States, despite women accounting for over half of the college-educated workforce, only 26% are in computer and mathematical science fields, and only 16% are engineers (2019). These statistics represent a tough reality: for too long, STEM fields have been dominated by men, leaving girls and women underrepresented and their talents untapped. The gender gap in STEM affects more than just individuals - it impacts all of us. By encouraging girls to explore STEM fields, we're opening doors to a future full of innovators, problem-solvers, and leaders who will shape the world in untold ways. Supporting STEM education for girls is about unlocking potential and building a brighter future for everyone!

It Starts Early

According to research by the AAUW (American Association of University Women) gender stereotypes are already being reinforced in girls as young as preschool age.

Our Values in Action: Supporting STEM Like a Girl

As a company, we intentionally place people first in everything we do. As part of that focus, our team actively participates in lifting our communities through a company initiative called "Days of Service," where EventBuilder employees volunteer their time at various organizations to be a force for good. Working with STEM Like a Girl is a testament to our commitment to empowering girls and supporting their journey in STEM. We recently volunteered at one of their events, witnessing firsthand the impact they have on young girls' lives.

How You Can Make a Difference

We all have a role to play in supporting girls in STEM. Whether you're a parent, educator, or simply someone who cares about the future of our society, there are many ways you can get involved. Here are a few ideas:

  • Encourage the girls in your life to explore STEM - Introduce them to STEM activities, books, and role models.
  • Support organizations like STEM Like a Girl - Donate, volunteer, or spread the word about their work.
  • Advocate for STEM education in your community - Talk to your school board, elected officials, and other community leaders about the importance of STEM education for all students.

Together, we can create a world where every girl has the opportunity to pursue her dreams in STEM.
